Election Inspectors Needed


Dear Supporter, 


If you are concerned about election security in November’s presidential election, NOW is the time to step up. Become part of the voting and counting process--and election inspectors, also called a poll workers, are paid for their work.

 

We are looking for many people to step up and work the Absentee Voter Counting Board at the Huntington Place Center (formerly Cobo and TCF).

 

Due to early voting, you'll have plenty of days to choose to work, ranging from five days before through Election Day on November 5.

 

Our goal is to have a Republican seated as a worker at each of the 50-plus counting boards in Huntington Place each day. 


By law the city must hire an equal number of Democrats and Republicans, but they have failed to do this at every election, claiming they didn’t have enough Republican applicants. (See Election Worker Disparity in Detroit’s August Primary: A Call for Fair Representation.)


  • The pay isn't bad.  You will be compensated depending on the classification of your job. Entry level pay at this year's primary election began at $300 a day. We will update this information as we learn more.

  • To be hired, you must receive training from the city. This training runs 2.5 hours long and is held at Huntington Place. Training times will be scheduled after Labor Day, and you will NOT be paid for the training. 

  • Work hours may range from 7 AM to 7 PM, depending on what day you are assigned to work. The clerk's office may request that you work more than one day or that you work additional time on Election Day. If so, you will be compensated for your time.


Please complete the application forms in full, and mail them by the END OF AUGUST. Include your full 9-digit SSN on both pages. (They need your SSN in order to pay you.)


Sign and date in ink, include on separate sticky note with this message that reads, "I am a Republican. Michigan Law, MCL 168.674, requires clerks to hire an equal number of Republican to Democrat election workers."

For added assurance of application’s receipt, please also submit your application online. Take a screenshot before sending and email it to Dominic at darestuccia@gmail.com, copying contact@mifairelections.org.


Call Chelsea (313) 876-0101 after 6 days to make sure they received your application and are processing it. You’ll also learn your training schedule.


Watch for emails from the Detroit Clerk’s office. You may need to be persistent.


One final important step. 


If you fill out an application to work, PLEASE NOTIFY MICHIGAN FAIR ELECTIONS that you have applied. Email us a copy of your application or a confirmation notice that Detroit received your application. That way, we can track your application and ensure it receives the attention it deserves, count the number of applicants, and SUPPORT YOU with necessary training and other information.
